Security systems for Ohio's capital-city airport

John Glenn Columbus International Airport is central Ohio's main commercial airport and a facility in the middle of major expansion. Harb installed and supports cameras and controlled entryways across the terminal.

The challenge

Coverage that keeps up with a changing terminal

A terminal under expansion changes month by month. Walls move, doors are added, temporary corridors open and close, and every change affects what the cameras see and which doors need to be controlled. Security coverage has to stay complete throughout, with no gaps while construction is under way.

The airport needed cameras and access control that could be extended and re-aimed as the terminal evolved, installed by a team that understands airport operations and the approvals that come with working in secured areas.

Harb's approach

Design for today's terminal and tomorrow's

Harb applied the same design approach it uses at Cleveland Hopkins: map the terminal's public and secured zones, place cameras for clear views of entrances, corridors and checkpoints, and put controlled hardware on every entryway that separates one zone from the next.

The systems were built to grow. Recording capacity, network paths and door controllers were sized with the expansion in mind, so adding a camera or a door is a routine service call rather than a redesign. Work was scheduled with airport operations so nothing interrupted passengers or flights.

The result

A second Ohio airport on Harb's platform

Columbus joined Cleveland as an Ohio airport that relies on Harb for cameras and controlled entryways. Security staff have clear views of the terminal and control over who passes through its doors, and the airport has a partner ready to extend the system as each phase of expansion opens.
